Hazard Perception
Taken alongside the theory test. This consists of 14 short video clips in which you must identify approaching hazards as quickly as possible. You cannot gain your theory certificate unless you pass both tests at the same test session. Time allowed for this test is 15 minutes. If you pass both tests you get a certificate - you then have up to 2 years to pass your practical driving test.
Practical Driving Test
The practical driving test is taken with a DSA examiner which usually lasts about 45 minutes.
The examiner will take you on a route designed to test your driving skills. You will also have 2 or 3 of the manoeuvres to demonstrate. You are allowed some minor driving faults which the examiner will record on your test sheet - but any serious or dangerous driving faults on your test and you will fail!
Mock practical test
Should you have a driving test approaching, I recommend you have a mock driving test. Your mock test will be conducted in the car you have been learning to drive in. The test will last approximately 40 minutes and will be carried out as if it was a real driving test. I recommend that you have your mock test at least 3 to 4 weeks before your real driving test, to enable you to work on the points given to you at the end of the session.
